Republicans question birthright citizenship, but Dems question their motivations - Yahoo! News
Yet again we are distracted by idiocy from the real issue. Yet again we are trying to fit immigration policy into a pandering 30 second sound bite. Yet again both sides of the aisle are ranting. The truth is that Phil Dobbs is right, revoking the protections of the 14th Amendment is not the answer. How many immigrants are we going to stop? What happens if you come illegally, are never found out. Your children grow up here, they have social security numbers and pay taxes and are productive members of society. Do we deport them in 25 years when somebody finds out? Stupid, stupid.
This country attracts productive members of society from all over the world – some of whom come illegally because our immigration laws are so screwy. They contribute, they don’t detract. How many people want to immigrate to China? Brazil? India? Mexico? England? Germany? Ireland? Russia? Poland? People come here because it is the land of opportunity. Now you want to tell the world, not really? Now you want to tell the world we were the land of opportunity, but no more?
How about protecting the borders, creating paths to citizenship that are legal and helpful, ways to work here legally. How about immigration reform, not immigration insanity.
And by the way, the democrats have nobody but themselves to blame for this craziness. They’ve done nothing about immigration except react to the Arizona law, which was a reaction to Federal ineptitude and confusion.
Someone needs to close our border with Mexico. Bush favored a 12- possibly even 20, million person labor force of illegal immigrants.
I didnt feel like republicans had the motive to close our borders during the Bush years, and I dont feel like Obama is too concerned either.
The next question is can independents win? Independent candidates may be the only ones with the courage to actively pursue legislation to secure our border states from the onslaught of illegal immigants. Politicians of both the democrat and republican mold squirm and remind us how difficult it truly is to stop these people from crossing the border, I am personally tired of parties getting in the way!

Great Post, Republicans so concerned with strict adherence to the constitution want to change the 14th amendment and democrats portray any questioning of illegal immigration as racism. We are betrayed by both parties.

Why was immigration all but ignored before Arizona decided to do something about it in their state? This has been an issues for years and while some things have been said here and there, nothing of importance was ever offered.
Come to think of it, the parties haven't come up with anything worthwhile now either, just bash Arizona for protecting their state.

i agree with this idea, immigrants are contributing menbers of society. by deporting them, we are further damaging our economy; they work in jobs that most americans do not want to, and they are still benefiting from our constitutional freedom. we are helping imigrants by providing a sanctuary from thier original goverment, and they help us by working. this affects me directly, a german friend of mine was deported; he had a job working in bicycle design and manufacturing. he benefited the economy more than hidered it. he was deported regardless.

The problem with immigration debate is that both sides are equally the problem. The left wants a "feel good solution" that would allow them in with little or no requirements, which
would which bankrupt some of the poorer states. On the other side of the coin would put massive numbers on welfare or simular well meaning, but an untenable programs. The best option in my opinion, is amnesty for those here now (date specific)and emigration rules enforced at the border,over-seen jointly by American and mexican authority and illegal immigrants should be deported.
