I had to share the following. It is an absolutely true story. It happened to a friend of mine this week.
I’ve been audited by the state of California for 2010 (when I relocated [to Texas] so CA didn’t like the fact I stopped paying state income tax). Have to prove when I moved and a variety of other things. I thought would share one of their questions and validations of proof of my relocation. I told the nice lady in Sacramento that I moved to Texas in July 2010 and she said well one of the things you can use to prove you moved is the stamp in your passport when you got to Texas. I’m not making this up. I repeated I moved to Texas, not out of the country’…she said that’s OK it will still work as proof of when you actually left California.
I’m thinking of just stamping a longhorn onto my passport with the line “fuck you I’m from Texas” underneath the longhorn and sending it in with the paperwork.
This is your government at work. Your tax dollars spent on raising more tax dollars and limit your freedom of movement. Wow.
